INFORMATION RETRIEVAL
The paper reviews the information operations of ARRB and firstly shows how these operations fit within our charter. It then discusses the recommended methods that local government engineers should use to answer technical queries. This sequence ranges from using a text book, consulting a publications list, talking to someone and possibly using their private library, reading a report or using a public library and, finally, using an information retrieval system. Each of these approaches is pursued in some detail. Finally a discussion is given on road-related data bases such as ARI, IRRD, ENGN and Accompline. (Author/TRRL)
