THE TRAFFIC MANAGEMENT PLAN OF THE MUNICIPALITY OF VELSEN

HET VERKEERSCIRCULATIEPLAN VELSEN

The main cause of traffic problems in the last few years has been the steady increase in vehicle ownership and vehicle use. Mobility has become a highly qualified common property. But the growth in car use has harmful side effects: lack of traffic safety, traffic congestion, problems with parking, and even a physical intimidation of the more vulnerable transport modes. To solve these problems a traffic management scheme was set up in the municipality of Velsen. The design of such a plan is rather expensive. In Velsen the wish structure method was used. By testing each part of the plan to see whether it is attainable the total costs can be minimized, while the traffic management plan remains reliable. (TRRL)
