AN EVALUATION OF SIGNAL TIMING AND COORDINATION PROCEDURES VOLUME I: TECHNICAL REPORT. FINAL REPORT

Based on a review of available literature, recommended procedures for timing the various types of signals are provided. Specifically, procedures are included for both pretimed and vehicle-actuated controllers located at isolated intersections and at intersections in a signal system. Smplicity and ease of use are emphasized as the targeted users are field technicians and those responsbile for signals in small cities and towns. A separate Field Manual has been prepared which is intended to provide a concise and easily applied set of procedures. Detailed theory and logic behind the procedures are provided in the Technical Report, as are brief descriptions of current computer programs which provide timing information. The Technical Report also presents the results of a questionnaire survey which had the objective of determing the types of signal equipment used in Virginia. (Author)
