TRANSPORT ASPECTS OF THE 1985 PUBLIC EXPENDITURE WHITE PAPER. FOURTH REPORT FROM THE TRANSPORT COMMITTEE SESSION 1984-85 TOGETHER WITH THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE COMMITTEE, MINUTES OF EVIDENCE AND APPENDICES

For the inquiry into the 1985 Public Expenditure White Paper, the Transport Committee decided to look not at the entire field of the government's transport expenditure plans but to concentrate instead on the following specific areas: 1) Format and content of the Public Expenditure White Paper (status of figures, assessment of output, financial management); 2) Department of Transport roads expenditure (information, capital expenditure, design criteria, current expenditure); 3) Local authority roads expenditure (capital expenditure, transport supplementary grant, current expenditure in road maintenance, bridges); 4) Public transport expenditure (capital expenditure, revenue support, concessionary fares, rural bus grant); 5) British Rail capital investment. Conclusions are presented together with a summary of recommendations. (TRRL)
