The general process of market research is described, and use of the survey (e.g., on-board questionnaires, personal interviews, etc.) as a research tool is discussed. A state-of-the-practice report on survey research techniques used by various transit agencies is made, followed by a portfolio of sample survey forms used by those transit agencies. A total of nineteen sample survey forms are included. These survey forms have been used for user and non-user profiles, user and non-user attitudes, marketing effectiveness and economic impacts.
