IS THE "PUENTE TERRESTRE" A PINATA FOR SHIPPERS?

The old idea of a Mexican land bridge is revived but this time to carry cargo and not passengers. The Gulf Coast container terminal would be located at Laguna de Ostion, 18 miles west of Coatzacoalcos, with the Pacific terminal located 150 miles south across the Mexican isthmus at the port of Salina Cruz. Rail time, port to port, will require less than three hours. The article outlines the projected facilities, estimates of tonnage, port charges and time savings compared with Panama.
