PRELIMINARY COST AND RISK ANALYSIS FOR TRANSPORTING SPENT FUEL AND HIGH-LEVEL WASTES TO CANDIDATE REPOSITORY SITES
The relative costs and risks of transporting nuclear wastes to nine potential candidate repository sites are discussed. The calculations performed are consistent with previous TTC study, but the analyses have been updated to reflect programmatic assumptions about cask capacities and repository capacity in order to be consistent with the environmental assessments written under the Nuclear Waste Policy Act. Because of the complexity of the issues as well as their regional character, costs and risks should be considered to be relative indicators among the various sites.
