OIL SPILL CONTINGENCY PLANNING IN THE NORTH SEA

The joint efforts of the oil companies and the offshore operating committees of the various North Sea countries to establish a basis for dealing with oil pollution is discussed. Studies were restricted to equipment and methods of cleaning up oil spills. Present plans of nearly all North Sea committees are based on using oil-dispersing chemicals. Two cooperative plans developed by the committees for the organization, storage, maintenance, and supply of equipment are described.
