SPEED REDUCTION 110-90. AN ACCIDENT STUDY

HASTIGHETSBEGRAENSNING 110-90. EN OLYCKSSTUDIE

1200 km of 2-lane roads wider than 11 metres had the highest speed limit permitted, 110 km/h in May 1979. These roads often have traffic flows in the region of 3000-6000 vehicles per day. During the period from June 1979 until October 1979 the speed limit was reduced to 90 km/h on all roads with 110 km/h. After this period it was decided that 540 km of the former 110-roads should retain a 90 km/h speed limit even after October 1979. This report is an investigation of the accident rate before and after this decision. (Author/TRRL)
