MARINE ANTI-FOULING
Fouling causes an enormous waste of money, which has reached a new peak with the advent of supertankers for which the only economical aim is antifouling for the life of the ship. Current research indicates the possibility of preventing the development of marine animals such as barnacles by interfering with the hormonal control of their growth. The effects of auxins on the development of algae are soon to be investigated with good prospects of finding an economical means of antifouling.
