COMPUTER BASED NAVIGATIONAL SYSTEM FROM IBM

A computer based navigational system is described. The system provides a wide range of collision avoidance and route tracking and control facilities for the vessel on which it operates. The system consists of a processor with magnetic disc storage, a specially designed bridge console, and various interface devices for the ship's radar and navigational aids. Some of the various functions provided include radar target acquisition and tracking, threat and maneuver evaluation, route calculating and tracking, steering and course maintenance, and position fixing. Individual components and features are fully described, as is the general operation of the system.
