MANUAL OF UNIFORM TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES - PART 3 - TRAFFIC CONTROL DEVICES FOR WORKS ON ROADS

This standard sets out the traffic control devices to be used to warn, instruct and guide road users safely through, around or past work sites on roads including footpaths. It also provides guidance for the planning, design, installation and operation of such traffic guidance schemes. Model instructions for traffic controllers and for carrying out daily routine checks of the traffic guidance scheme are given in appendices. The standard is applicable to traffic guidance schemes for road and bridge construction and maintenance sites and for works associated with railway, tramway, sewerage, drainage, water supply, telephone, electricity, and gas or other works, which cause, or are likely to cause, interference or obstruction to the normal use of a road. It provides a means of achieving uniformity of practice in signing and delineation of construction and maintenance works which is desirable in the interests of safety. The standard was approved on 2 April 1985. (TRRL)
