THE TRAFFIC SAFETY OF THE BICYCLIST
DE VERKEERSVEILIGHEID VAN DE FIETSER
There are four times more fatalities and injuries for cyclists than for car drivers per year. Cyclists however cause few fatal accidents themselves. In 1981 356 bicycle fatalities occurred in the Netherlands, while the number of fatalities among other road users caused by a collision with a bicycle was only 5. The increasing use of the bicycle justifies a larger part of the traffic and transport budget being used for the safety of cyclists. (TRRL)
