DESCRIPTION OF HP-41C/HP-97 PROGRAM "DELSAN 4" FOR ELASTIC LAYERED PAVEMENT STRUCTURES

The personal calculator program "DELSAN 4" described in this report may be used to calculate the critical stresses and strains in an elastic layered pavement structure. The program is written for both the Hewlett-Packard model 41C and model 97 (or HP-67) personal calculators. An attempt has been made to utilize a series of appropriate algorithms, partly based on Boussinesq's equations and a modified version of the method of equivalent thicknesses, so as to approximate best to parallel solutions obtainable through the numerous high-speed, digital computer programs available. The "DELSAN 4" program is capable of performing calculations on two, three and four layer systems. The subgrade layer may also be modelled as non-linear elastic (stress-sensitive), and all other layers are modelled as linear elastic. One or two uniformly distributed, circular loads may be imposed. However, due to the inherent theoretical limitations of the methods of calculation employed in the "DELSAN 4" program, certain constraints in its use are recommended. The necessary magnetic program cards needed for running the program can be obtained through the National Danish Road Laboratory. (TRRL)
