The work is examined of a legally constituted regional planning agency (Southeastern Wisconsin Regional Planning Commission) which was designed to provide the necessary areawide planning services of metropolitan areas. This case study presents background information on the form of organization selected to carry out the comprehensive, areawide planning function, describes the organization of the planning agency, discusses the basic concepts underlying the agency's approach to its work, describes some of it's major accomplishments to date, and identifies the strengths of the approach used. The reasonably effective intergovernmental approach adopted in Wisconsin, has led to a greater emphasis on the validity, accuracy and relevance of the data collected, and to the interjection of areawide citizen viewpoint into the making of decisions.
