SURFACE PREPARATION AND SURFACING MATERIALS FOR CEMENTITIOUS SURFACES

This report describes technology currently being used for the preparation and pretreatment of new or uncontaminated cementitious surfaces preparatory to the application of decorative and/or protective coatings. The types of cementitious surfaces covered by the report include poured concrete or precast slabs, concrete block walls, gunited surfaces, and concrete floors. The various surface preparation technqiues discussed are wet or dry sandblasting, sack coating, hand or power tool preparation, chemical (acid etch) treatment, and water blasting. The three types of surfacing materials (organic mastics, cement latexes, and plasters) utilized after surface preparation are briefly described.
