EVALUATION OF HIGH-OCCUPANCY VEHICLE PRIORITY TREATMENT PROJECTS: FIRST YEAR'S ANALYSIS

This report presents an overview of the study plan for the evaluation of three high-occupancy vehicle facilities currently being constructed in Houston, Texas. Preliminary analyses of data from the first 12 months of the study are presented. These data include park-and-ride demands, travel times and speeds, vehicle and person demands, plus limited accident experience within the three freeway corridors under investigation. Operational data will continue to be collected within the study corridors, both monthly and quarterly, throughout a 5-year evaluation period. The collection, and subsequent analysis, of data will allow a before, during and after comparison of freeway operations.
