ORE. QUESTION D 151. AN INVESTIGATION OF RESILIENT PADS FOR BALLASTED TRACK IN METRO TUNNELS

This report covers the experiences of the RATP (Regie Autonome des Transports Parisiens) which revolve essentially around and use of sleeper soffit pads and ballast mats. After a general introduction to the principle of reducing track stiffness by the addition of an elastic layer, a description is given of the field tests, the test methodology and the analysis of results. It transpires that this particular field of research appears to be promising, as the reduction of vibratory velocity levels above 30 Hertz exceeds 11 decibels with the most effective materials.
