GROUND MOVEMENTS CAUSED BY TRENCH EXCAVATION AND THE EFFECT ON ADJACENT PIPELINES
This report describes a research program carried out to investigate ground movement caused by the excavation of trenches, and its effect on adjacent and parallel (or sub-parallel) buried pipes. Three technical objectives are covered: 1, determining the extent of the problem; 2, quantifying the magnitude and distribution of ground movement arising from trench excavation; and 3, developing a practical means of predicting ground movement and pipe strain induced by trenching.
