RESULTS OF 1984 TRAFFIC/PEDESTRIAN FLOW CENSUS
The results of the census reported shows that traffic in Westminister increase by less than 1% during the day on weekdays between September 1982 and September 1984. This small increase compares with a fall between 1976 and 1977, an increase between 1977 and 1979, a further fall between 1979 and 1980, and a small increase between 1980 and 1982. Thus no constant trends in total traffic levels are discernible over the period since 1976, the overall net change being a small increase of just under 2%. Pedal cycle and motorcycle have increased substantially since 1976 but still account for only 3% and 7% respectively of total traffic. Although pedestrian travel increased by some 3% between September 1982 and September 1984, there was an overall decline in pedestrian kilometers of 8.5% between 1977 and 1984. Coach volumes increased appreciably between 1982 and 1984. (TRRL)
