INFLUENCING MOBILITY. NEW IMPULSES FOR A STEERING POLICY

BEINVLOEDING VAN DE MOBILITEIT. NIEUWE IMPULSEN VOOR EEN STUREND BELEID

During the last few years many pleas have been made for a steering national policy by the government for traffic and transport. Such a policy asks for other data than those used previously for planning. Earlier forecasts were based on data of the image of today's traffic without considering the motives of the traffic participant. If we want to influence mobility, we should know these motives. The psychological approach, applied in some priority areas in the field of traffic and transport, has to be useful. Social changes ask for another policy with regard to mobility. A steering policy based on behavioural and social science is wanted. In the long term, the influence of the computer must not be misunderstood. The home computer makes it possible to work at home and there will no more journeys to work. But the home computer can also determine the optimum journey possibilities. (TRRL)
