IMPACTS OF REGULATORY REFORM: DISTRIBUTION PATTERNS AMONG TWENTY-SEVEN BUSINESSES IN THE SOUTHEASTERN UNITED STATES
The report presents the results of a detailed examination of twenty-seven firms in nine chains of distribution providing goods to three different communities in North Carolina. The research traces shipping patterns, the utilization of transportation alternatives, the methods of payment of freight charges, the locations of transportation decision-making, the presence of rate discounts, and the perceptions of rate changes among firms at the retail, wholesale, and manufacturer/producer levels of these distribution chains. The research methodology is that of individual case studies.
