RECONSTRUCTION OF ROAD BRIDGE OVER HEAVILY-USED RAILWAY LINE

The article briefly describes methods used in the reconstruction of White Horse Bridge which carries the A6 trunk road over a main-line railway at Barton, north of Preston. The new bridge will be made up from 42 reinforced concrete arch sections each 14 in. wide and weighing between 9.5-10 tons. The work, which was made more complex as the railway line had to be kept clear at all times, is to be completed by August 1973. /TRRL/
