CONTAINERSHIP LOAD INDICATOR
The Gotaverken Type S5 Stalodicators, intended specifically for containerships, are electric calculators based on the Wheatstone bridge principle which are fed with data concerning the loads in the ship's cargo tanks or holds, and give a reading that indicates how the given cargo distribution will affect the hull. Each instrument is tailored to a specific ship. The instrument gives an accurate indication of the moment for each section and these are transferred to the main section of the instrument. Weights of bunkers, ballast and stores are also fed into the instrument, together with corrections for free surface in tanks. The total deadweight can easily be checked by causing the Stalodicator to add up the input weights. After calculating displacement, the Stalodicator S5 then provides information as to trim, dwt, bending moment amidships and stability (as metacetric height). The Stalodicator can easily be adapted to checking lifts of shipboard cranes.
