CRACKING AND ULTIMATE STRENGTH OF ONE-WAY SLABS REINFORCED WITH WELDED WIRE FABRIC

Based on experimental investigations on concrete slabs reinforced with welded wire fabric, a general theory is developed for predicting the average and maximum crack widths at any steel stress level. Principles of statistical probability are used in the analysis of the extensive experimental data. The studies have shown that a steel stress of 2,500 kg/sq. cm can be allowed in Indian welded wire fabric without violating the requirements regarding strength of crack-width. The paper suggests the incorporation of certain additional provisions in the relevant Indian Standards to ensure the quality of this high strength material. /TRRL/
