IN SUPPORT OF A PROGRAMME OF MEDICAL STUDIES ON ROAD SAFETY

PER UN PROGRAMMA DI STUDI MEDICI SULLA SLCUREZZA STRADALE

A BRIEF ARTICLE EXPRESSES THE NEED FOR IMPROVED METHODS OF SIGHT TESTING FOR DRIVING LICENCE APPLICANTS, AND THE ADEQUATE TRAINING OF THOSE WHO CARRY OUT SUCH TESTS. IT IS SUGGESTED THAT THESE TESTS SHOULD BE CARRIED OUT AT UNIVERSITY OPTHALMIC CLINICS OR AT HOSPITALS, WHERE IT IS POSSIBLE TO TEST THE SUBJECT'S RESISTANCE TO DAZZLE AND HIS RECOVERY TIME AFTER DAZZLE. IT IS ALSO POINTED OUT THAT FOR CERTAIN SIGHT DEFECTS, CONTACT LENSES ARE MORE ADVANTAGEOUS THAN ORDINARY SPECTACLES.
