THE SUBCOMPACT--ITS INCREASING IMPACT ON HIGHWAY SAFETY

This article develops an analytical framework based wherever possible on empirical studies, in which the probability of injury in any specific acceleration producing event can be estimated. Predicting the probability of injury is considered significant in regard to the current trend whereby the number of small vehicles on the highway is rapidly increasing. The complete writing on this subject was presented as a paper at the Third International Congress on Automotive Safety at San Francisco in July 1974. A number of other papers appeared in the proceedings which deal comprehensively with the subject of small vehicle safety.
