DYNAMIC STRESS ON ROAD SURFACES
SOLLECITAZIONE DINAMICA DELLA CARREGIATA
THIS ARTICLE ANALYSES THE DESIGN, AND THE STRUCTURAL AND MECHANICAL CHARACTERISTICS OF TYRES, CHASSIS, AND SUSPENSIONS, IN TERMS OF THE DAMAGE AND WEAR CAUSED TO ROAD SURFACES. STUDDED TYRES (STILL USED IN GERMANY DURING WINTER) AND THE HEAVY UNSPRUNG LOADS OF LARGE LORRIES, ARE TWO OF THE MAIN CAUSES OF SUCH DAMAGE. IT IS STRESSED THAT STILL MORE EFFORT IS REQUIRED IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF TYRES AND CHASSIS IN ORDER TO REDUCE CARRIAGEWAY DAMAGE AND THE HEAVY MAINTENANCE COSTS IT INCURS.
