SOME ASPECTS OF THE INTERACTION BETWEEN REINFORCEMENT AND CONCRETE

Various aspects of concrete reinforcement are briefly considered under the following section headings: detailing, higher steel forces, flexural cracking and deflections. The advantages and disadvantages of using higher strength steels than usual are also mentioned - there would be a saving on the amount of steel required, resulting in less congested reinforcement, but this saving would be reduced by considerations affecting the detailing of the concrete. /TRRL/
