THREE YEARS' EXPERIENCE WITH M-BEAMS

M-Beams, developed jointly three years ago by the Ministry of Transport and the Cement and Concrete Association, are a range of non-proprietary beams (of inverted T section) introduced to exploit the economic advantages of competitive tendering and the repetitive use of precasting facilities. The beams were intended to cover a span range of 15-29M, and over 1000 have now been used, generally for spans of 20M or more. This article reviews experience gained in the use of these M-Beams. /TRRL/
