TESTS ON AND EVALUATION OF THE SULPHATE RESISTANCE OF CONCRETE

PRUEFUNG UND BEURTEILUNG DER SULFATWIDERSTANDSFALHIGKEIT VON ZEMENTEN

Cement liable to attack by sulphate solutions is generally selected according to its chemical composition and blast- furnace slag content. An accelerated test method used to evaluate the influence of other factors, such as the quality of blast-furnace slag is described. The factors studied are cement porosity, the structure of mortar or concrete, strength at the time of immersion, and sulphate concentration in the water. The tests in which microprisms are used, were carried out simultaneously with long-term tests on concrete. Results of both series of tests were in agreement. The accelerated test method enables the sulphate resistance of cement to be estimated after 77 days. /IRRD/
