REHYDRATION OF PORTLAND CEMENT

UEBER DIE REHYDRATATION VON PORTLANDZEMENT

When Portland cement is used in refractory concrete, rehydration takes place as a result of the formation of free lime after burning of the concrete. The conditions of rehydration and formation of new combinations are examined by means of differential thermoanalysis and thermo- gravimetric analysis. Results show that the rehydration mechanism is influenced mainly by humidity and CO2. As the blast-furnace slag content of Portland cement increases, the intensity of rehydration decreases because the slag combines with the free lime. /IRRD/
