AIR-ENTRAINED CONCRETE

Research was done to establish the influence of entrained air on concrete under South African conditions. Furthermore, it was desired to know whether, by entraining air, a very coarse sand with only 2.4 per cent passing the No. 100 BS sieve could be used to make concrete of a high quality. Relations between workability and A/c ratio, and strength and workability, were established for concrete made from 20 mm (3/4 inch) crushed aggregate with a continuous grading and containing 5 per cent entrained air. The factors affecting the amount of air entrained in the mix are reviewed, as well as the influence of entrained air on the properties of the mix. /TRRL/
