PAINT WARRANTIES FOR STEEL STRUCTURES

LES GRANANTIES DE PEINTURE SUR STRUCTURES METALLIQUES

The author recalls that industrial paint warranties are defined in the code concerning the general conditions of warranty for paint for metal structures drafted in 1958 by the "Commission Technique de L'Office National d'Homologation des Garanties de Peinture Industrielle" (National Technical Committee for the Official Approval of Industrial Points Warranties). The articles of the code are Reviewed (the first defines the warranty offered by the manufacturer, the second deals with the application warranty). Attention is drawn to the protection against corrosion and the limit of rusting, fixed by standards, that a coating must not exceed at the end of the warranty limit. The scale the most widely used in Europe is the European scale of degrees of rusting for anti-rust paint. Brief details are given of the application of this system to the painting of metal bridges.
