EXPERIMENTAL CONSTRUCTION SITE FOR STUDYING THE STABILISATION OF CRUSHED GRAVEL WITH FLY-ASH AND LIME

CHANTIER EXPERIMENTAL DE TRAITEMENT AUX CENDRES VOLANTES ET A LA CHAUX DES GRAVES CONCASSEES.

THIS ARTICLE DESCRIBES THE CONSTRUCTION OF EXPERIMENTAL SECTIONS IN WHICH CRUSHED GRAVEL STABILISED WITH FLY-ASH AND LIME WAS USED FOR THE ROAD BASE. THE EXPERIMENTS WERE CARRIED OUT IN THE STRASBOURG REGION. TWO FORMULAE WERE TRIED FOR THE PROPORTIONING OF FLY-ASH (8 AND 13%) WITH 0/16 GRAVEL OBTAINED FROM THE CRUSHING OF ALLUVIAL MATERIALS FROM THE RHINE. DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE VARIOUS STAGES OF MANUFACTURE AND LAYING, AND RESULTS OF OBSERVATIONS ARE PRESENTED. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO SOME OF THE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES OF THE TECHNIQUE, IN PARTICULAR SENSITIVITY OF THE MATERIALS TO WATER. IT IS CONCLUDED THAT THE TECHNIQUE IS OF INTEREST AS IT ENABLES LOCAL LOW-COST INDUSTRIAL BY-PRODUCTS TO BE USED. /TRRL/
