CONTROL OF PILES AND SLURRY TRENCH WALLS BY MEANS OF GAMMA RAY MEASUREMENTS

CONTROLE DES PIEUX ET PAROIS MOULEES PAR MESURES GAMMAMETRIQUES.

A prototype of the Gamma Ray burn-probe "type for the non-destructive testing of piles and slurry trench walls was tested on experimental slurry trench wall site (slurry trench walls of the phone-rhine canal during its crossing of the town of Mulhouse). The aim of the measurements was to detect possible defects. The selected slurry trench walls had already been tested by sonic methods. This Gamma-Ray control technique, had been tried out on 4 experimental piles in which a number of common defects had been let to occur during casting of the concrete. The Gamma-Ray measurement method, based on the absorption of a Gamma-Ray beam by the material, is explained in detail, and the Gamma-Ray burn probe is described. Results are presented of the measurements made on the slurry trench walls and the experiment piles. The method will be introduced during 1972 on several construction sites and used along side sonic techniques.
