INFLUENCE OF POLYMER ADMIXTURES ON THE PRESSURE FLUCTUATIONS IN A BOUNDARY LAYER
Investigation was made of the Spectral and correlative characteristics of the wall pressure fluctuations (PF) associated with the injection into the boundary layer of polymer solutions which lower the turbulent frictional drag. The PF and the drag coefficient were measured in a thin boundary layer on the surface of a body of revolution set inside a hydrodynamic tube; the correlation and spectral analyses were performed. It was found that injection of the polymer solution lowers the correlation coefficient and reduces the LF and HF wall PF.
