DETAILS ARE GIVEN OF THE VARIOUS STAGES OF SURFACE DRESSING: SWEEPING, SPREADING OF THE BINDER, SPREADING OF THE AGGREGATE, AND COMPLICATIONS. ATTENTION IS DRAWN TO THE SPREADING OF THE BINDER, AND METHODS OF BINDER PROPORTIONING ARE DESCRIBED TOGETHER WITH THE CADENAT, LERROUX AND AMERICAN SPREADERS, THEIR RESPECTIVE ADVANTAGES AND DISADVANTAGES, AND CENTRIFUGAL AND-JET SCATTERING DEVICES.
