EXPERIMENTAL METHODS OF STUDYING THE TTORSIONAL STRENGTH OF BRIDGES
METHODES EXPERIMENTALES D'ETUDE DE LA RESISTANCE A LA TORSION DES PONTS
AFTER A THEORETICAL REVIEW OF TORSIONAL PROBLEMS, THE PRINCIPLE AND OPERATION OF THE THREE METHODS USED ARE DESCRIBED. THE MEMBRANE ANALOGY METHOD, JOINTLY USED WITH THE REFLECTION MOIRE METHOD, ALTHOUGH OF INTEREST, IS OF DIFFICULT APPLICATION. THE ELECTRICAL ANALOGY METHOD (WITH CAPACITATIVE MOUNTING) IS QUICK AND EASY TO APPLY, ESPECIALLY TO MULTI-CONNECT SECTIONS SUCH AS MULTICELLULAR SECTIONAL BRIDGES. THE PHOTOELASTIC METHOD, WHICH CAN BE CLASSIFIED BETWEEN THE OTHER TWO FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF EASE OF APPLICATION, IS USED AS A CONTROL METHOD. RESULTS OBTAINED FROM THREE BRIDGE STUDIES ARE PRESENTED.
