TOWARD REALISTIC AGGREGATE GRADING SPECIFICATIONS

The article discusses the enforcement of aggregate grading specifications and the problem of obtaining representative samples from large stockpiles of material. Because variations from the specified gradation are bound to occur during production and handling processes, a tolerance should be allowed. Production control should be improved as the grading tolerances narrow. It is recommended that failure to comply with specification sizes be penalized by a reduction in the unit price.
