THE PERFORMANCE IN CONCRETE OF ADMIXTURES WITH ACCELERATING, RETARDING OR WATER-REDUCING PROPERTIES
This paper describes the results obtained when 13 commercial admixtures with accelerating, retarding or water-reducing properties were examined using a specially developed test procedure. One accelerating admixture hastened both setting and strength development, while 2 'anti-freezing' admixtures produced no such effects. Four water-reducing accelerating admixtures performed satisfactorily permitting a 5% water reduction and giving increased compressive strengths. Lower increases of strength, similar to those due to water reduction alone, were obtained with 6 other water-reducing admixtures which retarded setting to some extent.
