THIS PUBLICATION DEALS WITH THE CORROSION OF PASSENGER CARS BY PRESENTING OBSERVATIONS MADE IN CONNECTION WITH THE ANNUAL COMPULSORY INSPECTION OF PASSENGER CARS IN SWEDEN. A DESCRIPTION IN GENERAL TERMS OF THE NATURE AND CAUSES OF CORROSION IS INCLUDED. THE MAIN PART OF THE PUBLICATION PRESENTS EXAMPLES OF THE PLACES IN WHICH CORROSION MOST COMMONLY OCCURS IN A NUMBER OF VEHICLE TYPES. THE COLLECTION OF EXAMPLES IS INTENDED TO SHOW WHICH PARTS OF THE VARIOUS MODELS ARE PARTICULARLY PRONE TO CORROSION AND ALSO TO GIVE A LIKELY EXPLANATION FOR THE OCCURANCE OF CORROSION IN THESE PARTS. THE EXAMPLES CONTAIN 17 DIFFERENT MODELS AND THE ANALYSIS HAS BEEN PRINCIPALLY BASED ON INSPECTION RECORDS CONCERNING 1965 MODELS. CORROSION IN STRUCTURAL AND FORCE- TRANSMITTING PARTS IS DEALT WITH, WHILE CORROSION IN WINGS, DOORS, ETC. IS NOT INCLUDED. PREVENTIVE METHODS AND REPAIRING OF RUST DAMAGE ARE BRIEFLY DISCUSSED, AND AN EXTRACT FROM THE SWEDISH MOTOR VEHICLE INSPECTION COMPANY'S INSTRUCTIONS FOR THE ASSESSMENT OF CORROSION IS INCLUDED.
