PIGGY-BACK TRANSPORT AND TRANSPORT INSURANCE

HUCKEPACKVERKEHR UND TRANSPORTVERSICHERUNG

A number of quite different reasons support the transfer of long-distance freight transport from road to rail. One means of doing this is by piggy-back transport, the transport of a whole lorry train over large distances between two junctions on specially constructed railway waggons. If this mode of transport is to be promoted in Austria, it must be made economically attractive, for example by the reduction of insurance premiums. Tests were carried out in Austria to determine the degree to which insurance costs could possibly be reduced. Brief details are given of the results of this investigation. /TRRL/
