AUTOMATION TREND CONTINUES IN TUG BOAT OPERATION

Automation trends in the tug boat industry as typified by the Esso Bay State are discussed. Explanations of the various automated systems such as auxiliary components, main engine, navigational equipment and towing equipment are given. Names of models, manufacturers and types of solid state electronic apparatus are provided in connection with their automation capabilities. Esso Bay State is an example of the new design in boats that are now using integrated automation. Most dimensions, capacities and outputs are mentioned, with an in-depth discussion of the main engine and drive train.
