CONTAINERS PUT TO THE TEST ON PACIFIC COAST
Recent cargo handling developments on the West Coast of the United States are summarized, including-increase of containerization; cargoes for which containerization is not suitable; ships carrying both lighters and containers; the problem of handling simultaneously containers and barges with palleted goods; the lack of standardization in containers and pallets; and offshore barge operations, especially in moving oil field equipment to Alaskas North Shore.
