RAPID TRANSFER OF LARGE VOLUMES OF CRUDE OIL FROM STORAGE TO TANKER

A description of the Dubai Petroleum Company two SBM crude oil loading systems in the Arabian Gulf. The entire facility, including storage, is located 58 miles offshore and is completely self-contained. SBM 1, capable of offloading rates of 35,000 barrels per hour, has been in operation since 1969. SBM 2, with an offloading capacity of 100,000 barrels per hour, has been in operation since February 1973. At the time of installation SBM 2 had probably the highest loading rate capacity of any SBM installation in the world. Operating experience to date indicates that loading rates of 93,000 barrels per hour can safely be obtained and that berth occupancy and tanker turn around times can be significantly reduced.
