INFLUENCE OF FRAMELINE FORMS ON SHIP RESISTANCE

Resistance tests on three models having different frameline forms, all of which are designed on the basis of a given bow from and a given sectional area curve, were carried out to examine the effect of frameline forms on ship resistance. The results show that the effect of frameline forms is qualitatively negligible on the wave resistance and large on the form factor. It was noted that the form having small secondary flows has low total resistance as in Besshos idea. The frictional resistance of these models were approximately calculated along stream lines based on Millikans method. The results show that the effect of the form on the frictional resistance change slightly by the frameline forms.
