OSCILLATORY WAVE FORCES ON SMALL BODIES
An approximation is deduced for the calculation of the wave force on a fixed or floating structure whose dimensions are small relative to the wavelength. The theory discusses only the oscillatory part of the wave force. The forces on a vertical circular cylinder are calculated by means of this approximation and are compared with the exact solution. It is concluded that the oscillatory wave force on a small body in an incompressible, irrotational and inviscid fluid can be calculated by adding the undisturbed pressure force, the added mass force and the damping force.
