MATHEMATICAL CONSTRUCTION, APPROXIMATION, AND DESIGN OF THE SHIP BODY FORM

Mathematical definitions of the fair curve and fair surface are given. The fairness number is proposed in the form of the functional depending on the function representing the curve or surface. The function representing the fair ship form is obtained as an extremala of the fairness number. Particulars connected with the mathematical construction of the ship body form, based on an assumed set of geometrical parameters, are discussed, as well as the approximation of lines determined by drawings and tables of offsets and the design of the form of minimum resistance. The mathematical principles are given together with explanatory examples of evaluation of extremalas and equations of ship body form.
