A SURFACE-ACTIVE CHEMICAL SYSTEM FOR CONTROLLING AND RECOVERING SPILLED OIL FROM THE OCEAN

The use of surface-active chemicals and the in-situ generation of polyurethane foam have been tested in the laboratory and in the field and are reviewed in depth. The capability of a cleanup system using portable chemicals and mobile spreading machinery is evaluated relative to the size of the oil spill and the weather. Data are presented on the toxicity of the chemical agent to toxicity of the chemical agent to marine organisms. (Author)
